That is a LOT of donuts...23 dozen in fact and there was a lot of giggling involved as we tried to wheel it all around and squeeze into the elevator.
After a merry morning we were then so blessed to have Thich Nhat Hanh on-site and I met him in passing before he went on stage to speak. He is a beautiful man, wearing long flowing brown robes. We made eye contact and each bowed with hands at heart and I stammered a "Namaste" in his direction as he continued on. It was so incredible to realize that I had just come into contact with perhaps the most enlightened person I may ever meet in my life in that moment. Wow.
I snuck away from my desk a bit later to listen for a few minutes at the back of the ballroom. He spoke about mindfulness and purpose. He pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket and as he unfolded it and turned it to the side so the narrowest piece faced forward to create a divide in the air between his hands. He then proceeded to discuss suffering and the balance with happiness. He spoke about how You should not be too afraid of suffering because you must know, like the left and the right of the paper, it is on the other side of happiness. Without suffering there is no happiness. So insightful.
Shallowly (is that a word?!) finished my day with some self-indulgence at my new and favorite salon @SanelaSalon then next door to Barcelona for some tapas for dinner.
Getting ready to fall asleep now next to my sweet love who's already away in dreamland.
The next time I have a really rough one I will remember Thich Nhat Hant's thoughts about balance and finding peace and acceptance in suffering. And how, essentially, days like that...prepare us to appreciate days like this.
Today was just one of those just very rare. Very special. Very lovely days.
